The 2019 Australian Open has advanced to the semifinals. Earlier this week, we looked at which American women remained in the quarterfinals, so now let’s take a look at who still remains in the race for the title.
Serena Williams fell to No. 7 Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals, missing the title game for the first time since 2014 (after sitting out the 2018 season shortly after having her daughter).
However, unseeded Danielle Collins, competing in her first Australian Open and first Grant Slam semi-final, continues to turn heads as she prepares for her match-up against No. 8 Petra Kvitova.
Jennifer Brady and Alison Riske lost in the semi-finals, while Raquel Atawo – in her 10th Australian Open appearance – has failed to advance past the quarterfinals. There are no American women remaining in the doubles tournament.
Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Abigail Sears (with their respective partners) lost in the quarterfinals. Nicole Melichar, with partner Bruno Soares of Brazil, have advanced to the semifinals. Melichar has never competed in a mixed doubles Grand Slam.
