This is the best sailing story since the America3 competition composed of an all-female crew in in 1995.  The SCA team is made up of women from six different nations.  They are competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, the 2,800 nautical mile trip that starts this Sunday (May 17, 2015). It is the world’s premier offshore race exhibiting an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endurance.  This is the first time in 12 years that a boat with an all-female crew will be competing in the race.  Read the article below to see who the crew members are. We will be following their progress.

The Squad

We are the first all female team to compete in The Volvo Ocean Race in 12 years, and we are the only all female team in the 2014-15 competition. This race requires physical and mental strength, there were over 250 applications to join Team SCA and only 15 were chosen to compete, and they compete on an equal level to their male competitors, they race the same boats, over the same oceans 24/7 for weeks at a time. Our crew are aged between 28 – 42, and come from six nations; USA, UK, Switzerland, Australia, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Our sponsor SCA believes that everyone should have the opportunity to live life to the fullest, and they are committed to creating value for people and nature. To champion these ideals, SCA launched the Amazing Women Everywhere campaign, to celebrate women who have a positive impact on others. As part of this campaign, we are collecting inspiring stories of women from around the world on our the AWE-mosaic http://www.teamsca.com/awemosaic

Our project is about inspiring and empowering women from all walks of life, we want to show that women can be, and do amazing things – Meet the crew of Team SCA.
