Amy Purdy, Para-Snowboarding
Amy Purdy, Para-Snowboarding

Amy Purdy is one of the top adaptive snowboarders in the world. She lost both legs to bacterial meningitis at age 19 and was only given a 2% chance of surviving. Needless to say, she was unsure if she would ever snowboard again. But with great determination and resolve, she overcame all obstacles in her way and earned several national titles and three World Cup gold medals. She has also been one of the leading influencers in getting the sport in the X Games and also in the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, where para-snowboarding will make its debut.

Over the years she has devoted herself to adapting snowboarding equipment to accommodate the needs of a snowboarder, such as flexible ankles. After observing that skiing, not snowboarding, was being promoted as the winter sport of choice to kids, she started a nonprofit organization called Adaptive Action Sports to attract others, even wounded vets, to the sport. With this kind of determination and forward thinking, you have to believe that she will be a success at Sochi!

Stay tuned as Marketing Female Athletes brings you all the must-watch athletes for the Sochi Olympics
