Marketing Female Athletes will be spotlighting athletes in different sports leading up to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Some of them you may have already heard about but there definitely will be many whom you’ve never heard about until here and now!
Susan Dunklee’s outstanding performance made her the only woman on the U.S. Biathlon Team to qualify for early nomination to the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team. She learned how to ski at the age of two by joining in family outings. She’s following in her father’s footsteps, literally. He competed in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics as a cross country skier. She learned how to shoot at age twenty-two when she moved to Lake Placid, NY to join the U.S. Biathlon development program. During her rookie season on the World Cup in 2011-12, Susan placed 5th in the World Championship’s Individual race in Germany, tying the best ever result by an American woman. Traditionally, the sport of Biathlon has not been a strong medal contender for the U.S., but Susan and the rest of her team members hope to make history in Sochi!
