Marketing Female Athletes will be spotlighting athletes in different sports leading up to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Some of them you may have already heard about but there definitely will be many whom you’ve never heard about until here and now!
Gretchen Bleiler, who was introduced to snowboarding as a part of the physical education program at her school in Aspen Colorado, aspired to compete in the Winter X Games from a very young age, and found her passion in snowboarding at age 11. She has been riding ever since and became professional in 1996. She accomplished her goal by becoming a five-time X Games medalist (four gold, one silver). Her impressive run continues by being an 11-time World Cup medalist (five gold, three silver, three bronze), two-time Dew Tour medalist, and two-time Grand Prix medalist. But her greatest accomplishment to date is jump-starting the invert revolution for female riders by being the first to land a Crippler 540 in competition. She has won more halfpipe competitions from 2003-2006 than any other female snowboarder!
Her passion is not just for the competitive arena. It has spilled over into her dedication to promote breast cancer awareness. She does this by being a spokesperson for Boa and the Boarding 4 Breast Cancer organizations.
