Marketing Female Athletes will be spotlighting athletes in different sports leading up to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Some of them you may have already heard about but there definitely will be many whom you’ve never heard about until here and now!
This week we’re featuring 17-year old figure skating phenom Gracie Gold.
Along with Ashley Wagner (our Week 1 featured athlete), Gracie is hoping to stem the American drought and win gold at the 2014 Games! She finished second to Wagner in the short program at the Nationals in January 2013. Add to that her U.S. Silver medal and the rest of her outstanding performance so far this year and you have a 17 year old who could be the future of U.S. figure skating. If you factor in her twin sister, Carly, who is also a competitive skater, we just may have a real treat in store for us at Sochi!
Gracie, who had dreams of being a gymnast, became fascinated with skating at the age of eight when she attended a skating party where figure skaters were jumping and spinning. She started taking lessons soon after. Michelle Kwan was her role model; she always admired her grace and elegance and aspired to be like her. It looks like she is definitely following in Michelle’s footsteps!
