Athletes to Watch: On the Road to Sochi 2014, Week 5

Marketing Female Athletes will be spotlighting athletes in different sports leading up to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Some of them you may have already heard about but there definitely will be many whom you’ve never heard about until here and now!

WEEK 5

This week, we’re highlighting a seasoned pro – speedskater Heather Richardson. At  24 years old, this High Point, North Carolina native will be competing in her second Olympic games, having placed 6th at the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Check out these stats: 15-time World Cup 1000m medalist (eight gold, six silver, one bronze); 11-time World Cup 500m medalist (four silver, seven bronze); 2013 ,World Cup overall 1000m champion; 2013, World Sprint Championships overall champion; 2012, U.S. Long Track Speedskating Championships sprint champion; 2012, U.S. Single Distance Long Track Championships gold medalist (500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m), and that’s just for the last year and a half! No wonder she’s the reigning world sprint champion and the main podium threat in the 500 and  1,000 meters in Sochi.

Oh, and she also plays volleyball and softball, and she’s planning to be a dentist when her skating days are over. She is going to be a lot of fun to watch!
